Stop Procrastinating – Tips for Getting Things Done

Stop Procrastinating

Wouldn’t You Like to Stop Procrastinating?

Do you find yourself rushing to get things done at the last minute? Are you constantly putting things off?

Many clients come to my San Diego office because they’d like to use hypnotherapy (hypnosis) and Neuro Linguistic programming (NLP) to help them stop procrastinating.  While both hypnotherapy and NLP can help reprogram your subconscious mind to overcome the habit of putting things off, there are some simple things that can help you stop procrastinating and get more done.

What Are Your Reasons to Procrastinate?

People procrastinate for a number of reasons. Maybe you’re afraid of failure so you just don’t begin. Maybe you find the work stressful or boring or maybe you’re waiting for the right mood to strike.

The good news is, no matter your reasons, you can stop procrastinating and find your way out of this negative cycle!

How Do You Feel When You Procrastinate?

How do you feel when you are the last one to finish or when you complete something much later than you promised? Do you feel guilty? How about when you get far behind and decide not to finish at all?

Chronic procrastination can lead to depression, especially when habitually putting things off blocks you from achieving your goals and dreams. After a while, witnessing the success of those who always finish first can make you feel worthless.

How to Stop Procrastinating

If you habitually procrastinate you probably find that beginning is the hardest part. These tips you can help you get started and get things done.

Boost Your Mental Health with Ginseng

Ginseng has been widely used by Chinese, Japanese and Koreans for a number of different reasons for most of their recorded history. It is an adaptogen (a class of substances that help the body adapt to physical or mental stress), that can help to protect you from stress.

Ginseng been shown to sharpen both memory and concentration. This may be exactly what you need in order to overcome your propensity to procrastinate.

How to Budget Your Time

The problem for most procrastinators is they feel as if they don’t have the time to get things done. If you feel like you often don’t have enough time to do your work, try these time budgeting tips:

1. Do the Most Important Tasks First

In order to do this you need to prioritize your tasks. What has to be done this hour, this morning, today? Once you figure out what’s most important task, do it first.

2. Make More Time

You can’t make more time, right? Wrong!

Many people who procrastinate also spend a little extra time in bed. In order to stop procrastinating, get up a half hour earlier. This will allow you to get more things done.

The great thing about the early morning is your concentration is high and the mind is fresh. You might find, like many other productive people that the early morning is the best time for working on your most important tasks.

3. Make a List of Things to Do the Night Before

At night before you go to bed think about what you need to do and make a list and prioritize it. Not only will this help you get more done it will help you sleep better because you won’t wake up in the middle of the night worrying about things that aren’t getting done.

4. Spend Less Time in Front of the Television

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Watching TV was the leisure activity that occupied the most time (2.8 hours per day), accounting for about half of leisure time, on average, for those age 15 and over.”

That’s means the average American spends about 21 hours a week watching TV. While there is some need to relax and unwind, spending this much time in front of the TV is just a waste of time.

Try reducing the time you watch television by an hour or so a week. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much more you can get accomplished!

Focus on Your Goals

If you want to stop procrastinating you need to focus on the big picture. Write out your goals in vivid detail and let your vision of the future motivate you to take action towards accomplishing the tasks that will bring your toward your goals each and every day.

What you’ll find is completing one small step toward your goals each day will motivate you and help contribute to the manifestation of your dreams.

If you find yourself procrastinating, take out your goal sheet and remind yourself of what you truly want to accomplish. Allow yourself to dream about your goals. See them in vivid detail, clearly in your mind’s eye.

As you begin focusing on and accomplishing your goals you’ll begin feeling the satisfaction that comes from bringing your dreams to fruition.

You Don’t Have Forever
