self confidenceI was talking to a small group of San Diego students the other day about building self confidence using NLP and hypnosis. These students were new in the job market and some were had doubts about their ability to find the type of employment they were seeking.

A few didn’t feel they had the confidence they needed to compete in the type of economy we are presently experiencing. These students were allowing their fears to control their dreams.

You can do this by learning a few simple strategies that will build your self confidence. This self assurance will help you to succeed in every situation.

3 Simple Strategies for Building Self Confidence

1. Know Who Are You and What You Want Out of Life

Not knowing who you are and what you want can be a huge obstacle from living the life you deserve. When you begin to get clear on who you are, what’s important to you, and where you’re headed in life, you’ll begin to feel empowered and in control of your destiny.

This self confidence will plant itself deeply into every area of your life.

To figure out who you are and what you want in life, sit down with a pen and paper, and ask yourself these questions:

What are your dreams?

To better answer this question think about the following questions:

What were your childhood dreams?

What have you always wanted to attempt? If you knew it was impossible for you to fail what would you dare to attempt?

What are you good at, your talents?

To better answer this question think about the following questions:

What do your friends and family say you’re good at?

What abilities do people compliment you on?

What about your life are you most excited about right now?

What’s great about your life?

What would you like to improve?

To better answer this question think about the following questions:

What can you do to improve those areas?

Who could you ask to help you?

Answer these questions and your passions will fuel your self confidence and stir you to take the action you need to move you in the direction of your dreams.

2. Fake It Until You Make It

Building your self confidence can be as easy as pretending you’re self confident already. You can use your imagination to help you become the person you want to be.

While it may seem silly at first, when you begin to move your body and speak “as if” you were confident, you’ll quickly build your self confidence.

Find someone you know, either personally or in the media that is confident and answer these questions about them.

How fast does he or she speak?

What volume does he or she speak at?

What gestures or movements does he or she do with his or her hands?

How quickly does he or she walk?

How does he or she move his or her body?

Now using your answers move your body in those same confident ways. Speak like that confident person speaks.

Remember, emotion follows motion. When you move your body confidently your emotional mind will feel self confident.

3. Find a Mentor

You can build your self confidence by trial and error or you can shorten your learning curve dramatically through a mentor. Why not learn from someone who’s already successful?

Find the person who you feel is the best at doing what you’re trying to accomplish then find out more about them. Ask them to show you how they arrived at their success and how they maintain it.

Ask them if they could mentor you and show you the ropes. With the help of a mentor your chances of success increase dramatically, thereby strengthening your self confidence.
