“Affirmation without discipline is the beginning of delusion”Jim Rohn

Many clients want to find out how hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic programming techniques can help them develop a more positive mental attitude and achieve more in their lives. I think these San Diego clients are looking for a shortcut for developing a more positive mental attitude.

Most are surprised when I give them homework that involves daily affirmations.

What are Daily Affirmations?

A daily affirmation is merely a positive statement written as if you are saying it, and addresses a personal characteristic you may have, wish to have, or want more of.

Notice I said a positive statement.

Most people are already giving themselves daily affirmations, they just aren’t positive.

They use daily affirmations by reminding themselves of things they’ve done wrong, projects they’ve failed at, relationships that have gone sour. These daily affirmations don’t help anyone.

Wouldn’t it be better to use daily affirmations to propel you to success?

You can.

There are affirmations in books or online that you can use with a little adaptation that can help you make big improvements in your life.

Use These 6 Steps to get the most from your daily affirmations

1. Take 15 minutes to clear your mind before reading a daily affirmation.

Clearing your mind helps you to focus on the task at hand, in this case reading your daily affirmation out loud. The easiest way to do this is to ensure you have enough time.

Put 15 minutes in your schedule to read, process, and reflect on your daily affirmations. At the end of the 15 minutes read your daily affirmation out loud to yourself.

2. Make your daily affirmation short and sweet.

Your daily affirmation should be short and sweet. Don’t use any big or complicated words. This makes it easy for your subconscious mind to process. If the daily affirmation has a word you don’t understand completely look it up or discard it and replace it with one that makes sense to you.

3. Change the affirmation into your own words.

Changing the affirmation into your own words gives improves your understanding. Also it’s much easier to retain a daily affirmation stated in words you’re comfortable with.

For example, instead of “I look for humor and fun in as many situations as possible” you could say something like, “I love laughter. It helps me to have fun in nearly every situation.”

4. Make the affirmation personal

The affirmation has to be about you and your behaviors. You also have to believe that it applies to you.

Ask, do I behave, think, or feel as the affirmation suggests?

If the affirmation is something you’ve already handled then the daily affirmation is confirming that quality about you in your subconscious and conscious mind. This will help your self-confidence.

If you the affirmation is something you are working on it can help to focus your subconscious mind on ways you can make the affirmation a reality.

Also, the methods suggested in the daily affirmation can help you develop those methods in your own life. This allows you to apply the information you learn in the daily affirmation in similar situations in the future.

5. Acknowledge the accomplishment of your daily affirmatio

Effective daily affirmations highlight skills you’re working on or how to deal with emotionally charged issues in healthy ways.

When you find yourself doing the behavior or skill acknowledge your achievement. You can even give yourself a small reward.

6. Develop affirmations for every part of your life

Affirmations can be made to help you improve all parts of your life. Daily affirmations can encourage you to live the most fulfilling life possible and can provide with an endless array of self-improvement topics to reflect on.

The great thing about daily affirmation is that they help you to confirm your already existing positive qualities while helping you to develop and strengthen new characteristics you want to add to your daily life.

The combination of self-reflection and repetition enables your daily affirmation to enter into your subconscious mind. This enables you to shift your beliefs and actions.

What Are You Waiting For?

Why don’t you start using daily affirmations to uncover new and exciting ways to go about solving life’s puzzles while developing qualities about yourself you need to solve them?

Success never takes you in a straight line, it has many rocky pathways. By using positive daily affirmations to help you engage in ongoing self-discovery you’ll be better outfitted to navigate the bumpy parts of your journey.
