One thing that is constant about life, the longer you’re here the older you get. But getting older doesn’t have to mean having to feel older. By staying active and content you can remain young and healthy in body and mind for your entire life.

The following are some simple strategies you can use to stay young and feel amazing:

1. Follow a Regular Exercise Routine

In order to live a long, healthy life it’s important to invest in your physical health. Follow an exercise routine that makes use of all your muscle groups, such as Yoga, Tai Chi or swimming.

• By staying active you’ll look and feel younger and your body will continue to be able to do the things you’d like it to do.

• You either use it or you’ll lose it, that’s why some people in their 70’s practice Tai Chi and can balance on one leg, while others need a walker just to get around.

2. Exercise Your Mind

“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” –  Joseph Addison

Engage in activities that keep your mind active. People that don’t exercise their minds become slow and dull. This inactivity can also lead to depression.

• Stretch your mind daily. Using your mind regularly helps to keep it sharp and your memory intact.

• Find activities that challenge your mind and give you new experiences. Read books, newspapers and magazines, do crossword or Sudoku puzzles, find out more about the world around you. Take a class at the local community college.

• As long as you keep your mind active your exciting years are never over.

3. Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle includes physical exercise, a healthy diet, drinking adequate amounts of water and avoiding unhealthy habits like smoking, overeating and drinking alcohol to excess.

• Smoking is the number one cause of preventable death in the world today so if you smoke, quit.

• While it’s okay to eat sweets every now and then, eating them on a regular basis diet can lead to obesity and diabetes. These issues can shave years off your life and make your golden years anything but golden.

• Some studies show that drinking a glass of wine or two with dinner can be healthy. Drinking a bottle is not.

• To stay well hydrated drink 8 glasses of water every day.

• Your goal should be to eat a well balanced diet. A healthy, balanced diet can help you not only feel great but also look younger.

4. Learn How to Reduce Your Stress

Stress impacts your health and longevity. While stress is both necessary and inevitable, too much stress has been found to contribute to all kinds of illnesses, including cancer and heart disease. It also weakens your immune system making you more susceptible to colds and flu’s.

Simply put, too much stress interferes with your health.

• Do something daily to counteract the affects of stress. This includes exercising, self hypnosis and meditation which help get your mind off whatever is stressing you out.

5. Get Adequate Rest

In order to feel good you need to get enough sleep. While the amount of sleep varies from person to person, if you don’t get enough sleep your brain and body will suffer.

• Find out how much sleep you need and make a point to get that much sleep every night.
