The importance of your mental attitude cannot be overstressed; it can make you or break you. As Zig Ziglar once said, “Positive thinking won’t let you do anything, but it will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.”

Your mental attitude will determine how far you’ll go in life. A positive mental attitude can help send you, again in the words of Zig Ziglar, “To the Top”.

Your positive mental attitude can help you deal with the inevitable bumps in the road that will be on your path to success and happiness. Creating and maintaining a positive mental attitude can give you the inner strength you need to overcome adversity of any kind.

It doesn’t matter if you have the tools, skills, knowledge, or resources right now, your positive mental attitude can steel your resolve and get you through the tough times so you can eventually come out on top.

On the other hand, a negative attitude makes everything you face much harder. Having a negative attitude is like competing in a race and expecting to lose. You get what you expect!

By creating a positive mental attitude you expect to succeed, and as a result, more often than not you will succeed!

You Get What You Expect

According to the law of attraction you get what you expect. It states that for every effect in your life, there’s a specific cause.

The law of attraction also states that by developing a positive mental attitude you can begin to take control of the causes and shape your outcomes. So to alter your future outcomes you need to first alter your thoughts in the present.

• Every time you plant a positive seed your positive mental attitude will grow and this mental attitude will reward you with a positive harvest.

• On the other hand, negative seeds have just the opposite effect. Your negative thoughts will also continue to grow, but your harvest will be spoiled and rotten.

It’s as impossible to plant negative seeds in your mind and expect positive results as it is to plant dandelions and expect roses. Life just doesn’t work that way.

How Are You Using Your Mental Attitude?

Since you get what you expect, a vivid and defining difference between people who are successful and happy and those who aren’t is the way they think, their mental attitude.

• Successful people visualize the successful completion of their goals and then take the action needed to make them a reality. They only spend their time and energy on doing what it takes to move them in the direction of their goals.

• On the other hand, unsuccessful people spend their time dwelling on the negative, on what could go wrong. Negative thinkers spend their time and energy complaining about how life is unfair, how the government has it out for them and how they never get the breaks.

These people spend all their time “majoring in the minors”, worrying about all the things that could go wrong but are actually unimportant. This negative mindset takes away time and energy by concentrating on unimportant things rather than focusing on achieving your goals.

Creating a Positive Mental Attitude

By developing your positive thinking skills and creating an “I can do this” mindset you’ll be able to overcome any challenges life throws at you. No matter how dark and discouraging things are or how intently negative thinking people try to dissuade you, with your positive mental attitude, you will be unstoppable!

Your positive outlook will allow you to concentrate on your goals with a type of tunnel vision that complete eliminates all the negative distractions that pop up. You will develop a stick-to-itiveness that keeps you focused on the road to success and happiness.

• One way to do this is to be, as Zig Ziglar called it, “a good finder”.  To be a “good finder you need to train your mind to focus on the good in your life. This doesn’t mean that only good things will happen in your life only that your focus is on the positive events in your life.

• An effective way to develop this kind of mindset is to have a positive affirmation that helps you focus on the positive and overlook the negative.

Use an affirmation like “Today I choose to let love, joy and abundance to flow into my life. I open my heart and mind to all the wonderful things life brings me.” An affirmation like this will allow you to harness the power of optimism within you.

Just like you work on your physical fitness, you also need to work on your mental fitness. Training your mind for peak performance is no different than training your body – it takes time and effort to achieve the results you desire.

When you begin to train your body it can be uncomfortable, the same goes for training your mind, but just as physical fitness because a habit after a while, so does having a positive mental attitude. The key is it’s going to take practice to develop the habit of thinking winning thoughts.

An effective way to train your mind is to think optimistically. Instead of seeing challenges as obstacles start to look at them as opportunities.

A Positive Mental Attitude is Within Your Reach

Brian Tracy once said,” Optimism is the one quality more associated with success and happiness than any other.”

You can develop optimism. It is within your reach.

You see, a problem is only a problem if you allow it to be one. In fact, by redefining a problem to be a puzzle, it becomes fun because everyone loves to solve a puzzle, don’t they?

As you redefine your problems as puzzles you will discover that each is an opportunity to learn and improve. And as you train your mind to search for solutions, your mind will learn to find them.

Now, as you’ve internalized this positive mental attitude, you’ll find that you’ve developed the type of mindset needed for a lifetime of success and happiness.
