How You Can Create More Abundance in the World

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”Mahatma Gandhi

When you hear the word abundance what images pop into your mind?

For many people abundance means financial wealth or money. While I agree with what Mae West once said, “I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor. Believe me, rich is better,” there is a lot more to life than accumulating money.

The simple truth is money can’t make you happy but abundance can.

Finding Your Life’s Meaning

Many of my hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming clients come to my San Diego office because they are unhappy with their lives. Many of these clients are financially well to do but they still struggle with finding happiness in their lives.

I suggest to them instead of searching for happiness they should search for meaning. The simple fact is meaning will create abundance and true happiness in your life.

Victor Frankl is best known for his book, ‘A Man’s Search for Meaning.’ He was a Nazi concentration camp survivor and lost most of his family, including his wife who was pregnant with their child at the time she was interred.

In his book Dr. Frankl wrote, “Everything in life can be taken from a man, but one thing, the last of human freedoms – to choose one’s own attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

Purpose will release you from all controls because having a purpose allows you to choose your attitude about life. This attitude allows you to have the ability to choose to make the world a better place.

Choosing to make the world a better place helps to create a feeling of abundance.

How to Create Abundance

When you decide to make the world a better place you can set off a chain of positive events. This is sometimes known as the Butterfly Effect.

The butterfly effect is a term used in chaos theory to describe how small changes to a seemingly unrelated thing or condition can affect large, complex systems.  This concept comes from the idea that the flapping of a single butterfly’s wings can affect weather on the other side of the world.

For you, it may mean that one small thing you do can have repercussions all around the world.

So to create real abundance you need to take positive actions. These positive actions can and will cause a positive rippling effect around the world, which will be returned to you.

You’re willingness to be positive will be followed by others and, before you know it, you’re changing the world one action at a time.

This is the best way to create real abundance.

Here Are 7 Simple Ways to Create Abundance

1. Be a Good Listener

Being a good listener means listening to others without interrupting.

While this sounds simple, not cutting others off in conversation or rushing them to finish speaking can be one of the most difficult things to learn. When you really listen to what others tell you it makes them feel valued. They feel like they matter.

This means you’ve giving them a feeling of abundance. In turn, they can use this same concept with others to create abundance in other people’s lives too.

2. Give Some Things to Charity

Maybe you have some household items that are in good condition that you don’t use anymore. Make some space on your shelves.

You probably have some clothes you don’t wear anymore. Go through your closet and pick out things you don’t wear and make space in your closet.

Put all these in a box and take them to a local charity. Someone will be able to use the things you give away and you’ll both feel good as you create a more space in your home.

3. Give Some Time a Charity

Find people that you would like to help. Research charities you’re interested in and then find out how you can volunteer.

For example, maybe you’re an attorney; you could help veterans at the local homeless center get their veteran’s benefits at no cost. If you’re a auto mechanic you could offer to repair the busses charities use to take their clients to appointments.

You could visit a local burn unit, a hospice or nursing home or knit or crochet blankets, baby hats or shawls.

The possibilities to create abundance in others lives through helping are endless.

4. Mange a Project to Assist Others

Do you have good organization skills? Then put them to use and organize a volunteer effort to assist a group of individuals.

For example, there are US service men and women around the world that can use a touch from home. Bake home made cookies, write thank you letters or just put boxes of paperback books together and ship them to US military bases all over the world.

Another example is to raise money for construction materials to send to China or somewhere else where a natural disaster has struck to help build new homes and schools for affected communities. Also, if you know of a group in your home town that could use help start your own local efforts to assist.

5. Put Extra Money in a Toll Booth or a Vending Machine

Drop by the vending machines, drop a few coins in it and then walk away or drop an extra toll fare in the toll booth. By putting enough change in a vending machine so the next person that walks up can receive a drink or snack for free or a free toll you are creating more abundance in their life and yours.

6. Adopt a Local Family for the Holidays

There are times of the year, such as holidays, where giving a few dollars to help a family enjoy the holiday spirit can make a big difference. This doesn’t take a lot of money and is a simple way to create a sense of abundance in the life of that family.

If you need help finding a family contact a local church or one of the social service agencies in your area.  The church or organization can provide you with the first names of a family’s members, their genders, and their ages. This will allow you to purchase 1-2 gifts for each of them.

You’ll have fun shopping for your family, especially if they provide you with clothing sizes and gift ideas for each family member.

After shopping you’ll be able to place your tagged gifts in a big box and drop them off to the organization sponsoring the Adopt-a-Family event. This is a great way to spread joy and happiness to an anonymous family at holiday time.

While giving at a holiday is great, you don’t have to wait for the holidays to help out a family. There are organizations and missions around the world that provide help and support to families in need of food, clothing, and school supplies.

Again, your neighborhood churches are a good place to find someone who helps those people in need.

7. Pick Up Someone Else’s Tab

When you’re at the cafeteria pay for the next person’s meal or when dining out, pay for another family’s dinner. This is a golden opportunity to make the next person’s day or anonymously create abundance in another family’s lives.

If you like, scribble a not and hand it to the server to give to them –“Pass it on.”

Creating Meaning and Abundance

By helping others you are creating meaning in your life. By creating meaning you are also creating abundance, not just in your life but in the world as a whole.

While it may not be possible for you to engage in all of these, you can choose to do a one or two of them. This choice will start the ripple affect needed to create more abundance.

When you engage in helpful, giving, and caring actions you are demonstrating your belief that taking a positive action, no matter how small, impacts the whole world. Through your actions you are creating abundance in everyone’s lives.

Then the idea of spreading abundance will become contagious. You’ll give it to everyone you come into contact with. You’ll become a kind of Typhoid Mary of abundant thinking.

You’ll be changing the world into a more abundant place, one action at a time.
