The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

Unleash the power of your subconscious mind

“The conscious mind may be compared to a fountain playing in the sun and falling back into the great subterranean pool of subconscious from which it rises.”Sigmund Freud

Have you ever considered the power of your subconscious mind?

From the types of food you eat to the actions you take each day, your subconscious mind tremendously affects how you go through life. Your subconscious beliefs and interpretations shade and color your experiences and set you up for success or failure.

Think of your subconscious mind as an auto-pilot that is pre-programmed to follow a specific route. The problem with an auto-pilot is if you want to change directions you need to re-program it or it will keep going in a direction you may not want to go.

What Is The Subconscious Mind?

Psychologists tell us that the “subconscious” is the part of your mind that operates below your normal level of waking consciousness.

As you read and understand these words you’re primarily using your conscious mind. Underneath that mental focus, your subconscious mind is busily working behind the scenes, absorbing or rejecting information based on your existing beliefs and your resulting perceptions.

These perceptions began forming when you were an infant. As you interact with the world your subconscious mind soaks in information like a sponge.

How Does Your Subconscious Mind Work?

While you were growing up your subconscious mind doesn’t reject a thing because you don’t have any pre-existing beliefs. As you experience life it simply accepts all of the information you receive.

By the time you are 7 or 8 years old, you already have a storehouse of beliefs. These beliefs are based on all the programming from people you encounter, television shows you watch, as well as other environmental influences.

If someone calls you worthless, slow, lazy, or worse, your subconscious mind stores the information away for future reference. If you were told you were inferior based on your physical abilities, skin color, gender, or economic status it can hamstring your success.

As an adult you may think that you can simply discard the hurtful or untrue messages you absorbed during your childhood. That’s not quite that simple.

All of that information is stored beneath your conscious awareness. You become aware of it only when it creates barriers to enjoying a long, fruitful life.

What Are the Affects of this ‘Old’ Programming?

Have you ever tried to do something only to find yourself self-sabotaging your efforts?

In can drive your crazy!

This doesn’t mean you have a defective mind nor are you destined for failure.

Like likely culprit is that your mind is running some old programming that is impeding the conditions necessary for success.

This is great news because if you understand how, you can reprogram your subconscious mind to accomplish just about anything!

The Programming Continues

Your programming didn’t stop at childhood, it continues today. Every day your experiences give you more input for you to draw inferences from. These inferences will act to guide your future actions.

For example, what kind of inference would you make about yourself if someone you cared about suddenly rejected you?

Your subconscious mind would immediately begin searching your stored files (known as memoires) to find other examples of rejection, like the time your best friend dumped you to hang out with the more popular kids. From that memory it might come to the conclusion that you are unlikeable and deserve to be rejected.

How Past Memories Affect You

If a new experience doesn’t agree with your present belief you will either reject it off hand or reframe it to agree with your existing notion of reality.

Here’s an example: Let’s say you’ve always thought of yourself as unattractive, and an attractive person flirts with you and asks you for your phone number.

If you’re cynical you might think is that they are playing a cruel joke on you. Because of your underlying beliefs you can’t understand how an attractive person could be interested in someone as unattractive as you.

Even though you want to accept the invitation, your subconscious mind screams, “Something isn’t right here this person is way too attractive to be interested in me,” so you either reject their invitation, or if you go on the date do something to undermine what could have been a great relationship.

Thoughts like these create barriers and can affect every aspect of your life. When you aren’t succeeding in some area of your life your subconscious mind can search you past experiences for the reasons you aren’t successful now and reinforce them.

Over time you begin believing that you don’t have what it takes to be successful. As a result you come to expect failure and end up doing the same old things, over and over again.

Stop Struggling and Start Achieving

You can probably imagine many other situations where your subconscious mind has been holding you back but there are methods you can use to quickly and easily reprogram it to guide you in the direction you want to go.

You can reprogram your mind for success.
