1. Develop Realistic Expectations 

Yes, aiming high is very important but if your expectations are completely out of your reach, you’ll never know what it feels like to achieve your goals.

The best way to develop self confidence is to make goals you can routinely achieve.

Goal setting requires a balance between stretching your abilities and realistic expectations. To build your confidence in your ability to achieve your goals, tweak your expectations until you find that sweet spot where you’re still pushing yourself, but you’re also able to accomplish what you’ve set out to do.

Self confidence builds upon success. Once you’ve accomplished your goal, you’ll develop even more self confidence.

2. Hang Out with Positive People

Jim Rohn once said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Thee people you spend the most time with will either have a contagious, positive energy that lifts you up and encourages you or tends to bring you down and destroy your confidence. Develop self confidence by hanging around with positive people who build you up and make you feel good!

 3. Work on Developing Your Talents and Skills

If you feel unsure about your talents and abilities your self-confidence can suffer. Take the time to think about the talents and skills that you’re good at and work on developing those talents and skills. Your self confidence will grow as you begin to excel in these areas.

4. Be Your Own Advocate

The thing about opinions is they are like belly buttons, everybody has one.  When someone says something negative about you, remember that their words are simply their opinion.

The more important opinion is your own. As the Buddha once said, “Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” Do what you believe is right for you. That is the only way to develop self confidence.

5. Move Your Body

You body is made to move so exercise or engage in physical games. In addition to conditioning your body, physical activities and exercise can help calm you and strengthen your mind as well. Engaging in regular exercise helps you feel more upbeat, which in turn makes you feel better about yourself and the world around you.

6. Remember to Reward Yourself

Many people forget to reward themselves when they’ve accomplished something.  Big or small, it’s important to pause and give yourself a reward. By associating the happiness of a reward with achievement you’ll feed your drive to persevere and succeed.

7. Practice Using Daily Positive Affirmations

Using positive daily affirmations are a great way to develop self-confidence. Positive affirmations allow you to communicate your desired self image with your subconscious mind. This process helps to develop your confidence one thought at a time.
