When clients come to my San Diego office they often lack the self confidence needed to accomplish the goals they’ve set for themselves. They want to use advanced hypnotherapy (hypnosis) and NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming to help them build their self confidence so they can achieve their goals and dreams.

What is Self Confidence?

What is self-confidence anyway? Self confidence is that ability to believe in yourself and your abilities. It’s that inner feeling that “I can do this”.

Self confidence comes as a result of feeling valuable, of having worth not only to yourself but the world around you. And just like anything of value your self confidence can fluctuate up and down in worth for a myriad of reasons!

What’s key is, even though your self confidence will experience ups and downs, there are simple things you can do to increase it each and every day.

One of the things I have to point out to some clients is they already have plenty of value. That value is a result of merely being alive and unique.

You are unique because you have your own set of skills, talents, ideas and strengths.

If you think of your worth in terms of financial worth, you can get a good idea of how you can increase our own self-worth and confidence.

How to Build Your Self Confidence

How do you increase your financial worth? Make more money, of course.

How do you make more money? You make more money by taking specific actions in your workplace or businesses.

Sounds obvious, right? Well it is!

Self confidence works the same way. Think of your memories of success as your self confidence bank account. The more memories of success you have the more you build your self confidence.

It’s that simple!

Here are 5 things you can begin doing right now to build your self confidence:

1. Start a Hobby or Recreational Activity

What would you like to do in your spare time? Collect coins, watch birds or learn a martial art?

Choose something you like that you’re willing to invest a few hours a week pursuing. As you improve in knowledge and skill in this one area of your life your self confidence in other areas of your life will improve also.

As you become better and better, you’ll build your self confidence and self worth so decide to add a hobby or recreational activity to your life today and then take action and start.

Remember, the more you enjoy what you do in your life, the more you’ll also enjoy who you are as a person and there greater your self confidence will be.

2. Learn Something New

Learning something new is a great way to build your self confidence and add to your self-worth. As with hobbies, taking a new class is like making a deposit into your knowledge bank.

When it comes to learning you have many choices:

• You can take a class at the local community college in something you’ve always been interested in.

• You can register for an online webinar.

• You can search your local newspaper for free classes offered in your area.

• You can research classes in your area by calling your local school district. Most offer inexpensive continuing education classes in almost every subject imaginable. You might even find a new hobby!

3. Read, Read and Read Some More

Most people don’t read. What a shame! Your world will grow in direct proportion to the people you meet and the books you read.

Not only does reading stimulate your mind, the knowledge you gain can permanently build your self confidence and worth.

Reading sparks your imagination. This can cause new ideas to emerge giving you even more self confidence. Nothing builds self confidence like knowing more about the world you live in!

4. Learn a New language

Here’s how you meet more people. Today there are a vast number of tools available to you that that can assist in not only learning but mastering a new language. A new language can open up many new opportunities for you to travel and meet new people. If can also help you understand people from other cultures.

Learning new languages is a great way to build your self confidence because it allows you to communicate on a completely different level with people you may have never thought about communicating with before.

5. Try Something New and Exciting

What have you always wanted to do? Take a trip down the rapids on a raft, sky dive or pet a shark? Whatever it is give yourself permission to take a chance, conquer a challenge, and step out of your comfort zone.

Trying something new and exciting will stretch you as an individual. By doing something new you get to see yourself from a new perspective. This can give you a glimpse of your true potential.
