Is it challenging to motivate yourself?

“You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.” – Henry Ford

Do you find it hard to “get motivated” about some things in your life? Whether it’s looking for a new job or losing a little weight or just taking out the trash, “getting motivated” can sometimes be a real challenge.

You probably don’t need to motivate yourself to go to work or brush your teeth or take a bath. You do these things because they have to be done. This type of motivation is known as negative motivation because not doing them will have negative results.

The good thing about negative motivation is that it works. The problem is negative motivation doesn’t work unless there is an immediate negative consequence. For example, it’s easy to put off eating healthy foods when the candy machine is nearby in the break room.

In order to achieve more difficult goals it’s important to make those challenging activities more appealing. You also have to make it easy to get started.

The following 7 steps help you get started so you can accomplish those more challenging goals with seemingly no effort at all.

1. Accept that you are never going to “get motivated” to do anything!

I don’t care who you are and what you’ve achieve so far there are doing to be days when you don’t “feel” like taking action. Olympic athletes sometimes don’t always feel like training. Successful business people don’t always want to go to meetings.

• Successful people are successful because they do it anyway!

2. Visualize what your future will be like by taking action.

Neuro Linguistic programming and hypnotherapy use visualization to help people focus on their goals and dreams. These techniques work by helping you imagine your life as it will be once you’ve achieve your goals.

So imagine what your life will be like once you take action and start moving toward your goals.

• Visualize yourself at a far future date and then bring it back to the next few months. Just imagine how wonderful you will feel as you move closer and closer to your goals.

3. Visualize what your future will be like if you don’t take action.

People use negative visualization all the time. The problem is that negative visualization takes you in the wrong direction.

In the movie groundhog day, Bill Murray keeps living the same day over and over again. That’s how your life is like when you don’t take action. You seem the same as you are today, just another day, or week, or month older.

• To change your life you need to take action!

4. Use the Pareto’s Principle to select your most important actions.

Pareto’s Principle, also known as the 80/20 Rule, states that that 20 percent of your efforts are responsible for 80 percent of your results. List what nee4ds to be done and then figure out what will give you the biggest bang for your buck.

What you’ll find is these activities are often the ones you enjoy the least but by doing them you can create the momentum you need to accomplish anything you set your mind to do. Nothing can stop you.

5. Schedule your tasks.

What steps are you going to take each day to make your compelling future come true? You can move swiftly through toward your goals by scheduling your activities.

• Start your tasks during your most productive part of the day. This will make it easy to get started.

6. Celebrate your successes.

Give yourself a reward when you accomplish the tasks you set for yourself. Whether it’s a meal at your favorite restaurant or a couple of hours at the spa, choose something that appeals to you and motivates you.

7. Give yourself feedback

At the end of the day ask yourself hat did you do well, what could you have done better? Using this feedback your can develop an even better game plan and accomplish even more.

Stop Waiting to”Get Motivated”!

While motivation great, if you stand around waiting to “get motivated” you may never get anything done!

Use these steps to give yourself the momentum you need to get started and soon you’ll find yourself achieving more than you eve thought you could accomplish. Let your “get it done” attitude inspire others toward success.
