You can Do these Easy Exercises Anywhere

One of the biggest reasons people have for not exercising is they “don’t have time.” When you consider getting the kids ready for school, getting yourself ready for work, the travel time involved, exercise can be, and often is, the last thing you want to do.

The problem is your body needs exercise. Not only is exercise a necessity for healthy weight management, it makes you feel good too.

It’s Time to Stop Making Excuses

While it can be hard to carve out an hour a day to exercise, anyone can find a few minutes four or five times a day to do a little exercising.

Here are 5 easy exercises you can do just about anywhere that won’t take a lot of time from your day and help you get back into shape:

(Disclaimer – don’t try any of these exercises if you haven’t exercised for a while without checking with your doctor)

1. Triceps Dips

Sit on the edge of a chair with your hands on the outside of your seat. Lift your butt up from the seat and push your pelvis off of it. Allow your arms to bend to where they are 90 degrees with your shoulders and then push your arms straight.

Do this a half dozen times to begin with and build from there. If you want to make the exercise more difficult keep your legs straight.

2. Pushups

You probably already know how to do pushups. To get more out of them you can do your pushups with your hands wider than your shoulder width. This gives you more of a chest and shoulder workout.

You can also bring your hands together in a diamond shape near the center of your chest. This will work more of your triceps as well as your shoulders.

You can also do half pushups, either going only half way down and then back up, or starting from the floor and then pushing up half way and then going back down. This helps to intensify your workout.

3. Stomach Crunches

Instead of putting your hands behind your neck or head, simply use your stomach muscles to pull you up. This alleviates putting pressure on your neck and back. Try to do a minimum of 5 of these to begin with.

If you are already used to crunches, a more advanced technique is to put you legs straight up in the air and try to alternately touch your opposite foot with your hand.

You can also do a bicycle. Lying on your back, pump your legs out in front of you or up in the air. All of these can help work out your stomach muscles.

4. Squats

A squat is simply bending your legs and allowing your body to squat down. Since your thighs and gluts are your biggest sets of muscles, you need to exercise these muscles.

If you haven’t done squats for a while, to begin with, only squat down a foot or so. . You can work up to deeper squats as your muscles get stronger.

An advanced technique you can do at home is to hold a couple of  2-liter jugs filled with sand or water in your hands while doing your squats.

5. Calf Raises

A calf raise is simply standing somewhere, such as on a curb or on the stairs, where you can allow your heels to go down and then to lift them back up as high as possible. This exercise works out your calf muscles, making them stronger and shapelier.

Repeat this at least 10 or 12 times.
