How to Find Happiness in an Hour or Less

how to find happiness

do you want to be happier?

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” –  Mahatma Gandhi

Do you want to be happier? Do you want to know how to find happiness?

Neuro Linguistic Programming teaches that you get what you focus on. Focusing on what you want will get you the results you desire.

A Simple Process to Help You Focus on Improving Your Life

Here’s a simple process to help you find the happiness you are searching for.

Take a piece of paper and a pencil or a word processing program. Write at the top, “Things I want to improve”.

Now brainstorm some ideas. Brainstorming is coming up with ideas without judging them. Just write down each answer as it comes to you and then go to the next one.

Think about every area of your life, your body and health, your finances, your relationships, your home and where you live, your work. Write down everything that could improve your life, every wild and crazy answer you can think of.

Every answer is perfect. There are no wrong answers.

For one hour, write down your answers as fast as you can. Now put your answers away.

Tomorrow, do the same process again. Do this once a day for an hour. Do this for a week. The reason you want to do this for several days is because your best ideas will bubble up after a little practice.

While there is no maximum number of ideas a good goal to shoot for is at least 50.

Use the follow three steps to whittle down your list into usable and doable ideas:

1. Choose Your Top 10

Choose your top ten and then save the rest to start on later. Some will jump right out at you, some will be possible but maybe not at this moment and some will most likely be unusable. That’s normal. Just go though your list and pick your top 10 best ideas.

• Choose the ideas that give you the biggest “bang for your buck”.  The ones that when you accomplish them will affect your life the most. Consider all your options.

• These ideas do not have to be complicated. Sometimes the simplest and easiest adjustments are the best.

2. Rank Your Top 10

Put your ideas in a list from easiest to the most difficult to accomplish. Starting off easy will give you confidence in your ability to accomplish things which will give you the motivation you need to take on your bigger ones.

• You can use a Neuro Linguistic Programming technique called visualization to get a feel for how accomplishing each task will affect your life.

Before starting each task, visualize its completion. What does it look like, how do you feel, and what are you hearing as a result of finishing each task? This will put you in the proper state to work on each task.

3. Begin at the Top of Your List

Now that you have a list you need to take action. You need to start on your list. This is the part that separates the doers from the also rans.

Those 10 ideas are your best ideas. They will give you the biggest bang for your buck. This is the proper use of the Pareto Principle.

If you’re not familiar with Pareto’s Principle, it basically states that 20% of the things you do supply you with 80% of your results. Because of the process you used to choose these ideas, accomplishing them will greatly influence the direction of your life.

You can also use the Pareto Principle to choose what you want to work on.

For example, if you know of a particular area that could really benefit from some focused development you could make a list of that one area. This could be your health, becoming wealthy or career development.

• If you need assistance in choosing a specific section, do this: Rate every area of your life on a 1-10 scale, putting the most important area at the top.

Just Knowing Where You’re Going Will Make You Happier

If you want to be happier, spend your time focusing on the things that are most important to you. You’ll be happier because you’ll fell like you’re making real progress in your life.

Even if you are already doing well, just making this list will help you focus on improving your life on a daily basis.  Little improvements daily will add up to enormous ones in the future.

Isn’t that really happiness?
