I mean the day starts out perfect and then you get that e-mail or phone call with less than good news.

Now your day’s in a tailspin. You’re officially in a funk.

You can make an active effort to add a little happiness to your day.

While there are days where you’ll have to make a considerable amount of effort most of the time it’s the simple things that will add some cheer to your day.

1. Hang out with your kids or other family members

Negative events can take your focus inward, on yourself. Instead, pay attention to the people you love.

Just being with them can help you focus about how grateful you are that they’re in your life.

2. Be grateful

Take a little time to think about all the things you’re grateful for and write them down.

You’ll probably have a big list in no time at all!

Sometimes just focusing on what’s going right in your life is all you need to turn that frown upside down.

3. Snuggle up with your significant other

Invest some couple time snuggling up with your partner.

On top of making you feel better it’s a great way to reconnect, especially if you’ve been really stressed out and busy.

4. Phone a friend

Reconnecting with a close friend on the phone is a great way to pass some time in a way that quickly cheers you up.

You can talk about old times or enjoy some future planning together.

5. Hang out with your pet

Hanging out with your pet does the same thing as hanging out with your other family members, they make you feel good.

Take you pet for a walk or brush and pet them.

6. Do Something Active

Get some friends or family members and play tennis or golf or go on a bike ride or a run.

Physical activity and sports are fun ways to get some exercise and relieve stress which makes you feel better.

Maybe you’re just a little tired.

Even 15 minutes of shut-eye can help you feel more energized and put you in a better mood.

12. Talk to someone about nothing of particular importance

Talk to one of your co-workers about their plans for the weekend or strike up a conversation about the weather with a stranger in the grocery store line.

You get what you put out.

By being friendly and happy towards others, they’ll reflect the same to you.

13. Listen to music

Find some songs you like and just listen to them.

Dig out some oldies and listen to your favorites.

Put some music on your phone or music player and start cranking up the tunes!
