Sometimes is just hard to get enthused to go to work in the morning. Your eyes open but the long list of things to do overwhelm you before your feet hit the floor. When it comes right down to it there are tons of things you’d rather do than go to work today!

Job stress can dampen your enthusiasm and deplete your motivation. If you go to work in this state you won’t perform as well as you can and might not even perform up to expectations. After a while your boss may start to notice your lack of motivation.

But since your work is how you make your living it’s important to be able to overcome these feelings. You need to be able to knock down those obstacles while they are small before they begin to block your success.

One of the habits of highly successful people is to be able to build their enthusiasm each morning each morning before they even think about work. Think of this as a professional development plan, a stepping stone between where you are now and what you want to accomplish.

The following is a 4-step approach used by highly successful people to get every day started right:

1. Develop a Morning Ritual

Every morning read a book, go for a walk, practice yoga, pray, do something instead of watching the news or checking your email. Do something that sets your mind up for a fantastic day.

• Your morning ritual might include getting your mind and body ready for the day. For example, my morning ritual includes 15 minutes of Yoga to warm up my body followed up by 15 minutes of Qigong to focus my mind.

2. Practice Gratitude

This can be part of your morning ritual, thinking about all you have to be grateful for. If your your job has been stressful it can be healing to remember to be grateful for the opportunities your job brings you. Are you grateful for your family, your friends, and the community you live in?

• Take a moment each morning to consider all the things you are grateful for.

3. Check Your Plan

As you begin your day, check what is on your plate and make sure the goals you’ve set for yourself are reasonable.  Scheduling more than you can do is de-motivating. In the morning check your list and insure that it’s manageable.  This way you’ll be more motivated to take on the day.

• Don’t make your day too easy. Find challenging tasks that stretch your capabilities. This will keep your mind active. If you don’t utilize your brain your days can become quite dull.

• Challenges at work are good. they keep you on your toes and remind you why you’re worth every dollar you make!

4. Create a Stimulating Work Environment

Is your work environment inspiring or does is it actually demotivating you?  The appearance of your work environment can certainly be a source of your lack of enthusiasm.

• What would make you your work environment more stimulating? What kinds of things motivate you to do your best work? Is it photos of your family? Is it fresh flowers? Is it mementos of past successes?  Put these types of things in your environment and watch your motivation soar!
