7 Ways to Improve Your Self Confidence When Life Pulls You Down

Improve Your Self Confidence “If you think you are beaten you are; if you think you dare not, you don’t; if you want to win but think you can’t; it’s almost a cinch you won’t.”

“If you think you’ll lose you’re lost; for out of the world we find success begins with a fellow’s will; it’s all in a state of mind.”

“Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger and faster man, but sooner or later the man who wins is the man who thinks he can.”Author Unknown

Sometimes life is like an intense battle that leaves you feeling defeated. Those times can take everything out of you, and tear away at your self confidence.

When your self confidence has taken a big hit, how can you believe in yourself? How can you build your self confidence back again?

If your life has been a battle lately that’s left you feeling beat up then use these tips to improve your confidence and get back into the game:

1. Stop looking at events as failures.

In NLP we say there is no failure only feedback. When you are not successful you can either think of the event as a defeat or failure or you can think of it as a learning experience.

Tell yourself, “Maybe I didn’t succeed this time but I’ll use my experience to figure out a different way to go about it so I can succeed next time.”

• Improve your self confidence by deciding to learn from the tough times and then using those lessons to build your life into the one you desire.

• By recognizing that every challenge teaches you something valuable you can use it later in life when other challenges come your way.

2. Set new goals and work toward their achievement.

Write down your new goals. This will help to re-ignite your passion about your future.

When you set a goal and then accomplish the things you’ve worked hard for, you feel like you a million bucks! Working and achieving goals can make you feel like you can do anything.

• When you take a hard fall set a goal that you can accomplish right away. As you focus your efforts toward accomplishing your goal you’ll experience deep feelings of satisfaction and improve your self confidence.

• Setting and achieving a goal is one of the sweetest things in life. Go at it with gusto!

3. Use positive self-talk.

What do most people do when things don’t go their way? They use negative self talk. They tell themselves things like, “Why are you such a screw up?” or “Why can’t you do anything right?”

Instead use positive self talk.  Phrases such as, “What did I learn from this?” or “I did a fantastic job I just need to make a little adjustment,” or “How can I better focus on being successful at this?” can help improve your self confidence.

• Talk to yourself as if you’re the smartest, kindest, most talented person you’ve ever met.

• Be positive and self-supporting. Speaking to yourself in a positive manner will make a huge difference in your life.

4. Focus on your good points.

By focusing on all the good things about you you’ll begin to build your self confidence back.

• Reflect on all the good things you’ve done in your life.

• By taking time to reflect you’ll become clear about the wonderful person you. What a wonderful way to improve your self confidence!

5. Be grateful for the fantastic people you have in your life.

Think of your friends and family members. Consider your relationships with them. Be grateful for what they bring to your life and think about what you bring to theirs.

• By being grateful for the people close to you, it lifts your spirits and your self confidence is bolstered knowing you are surrounded by incredible people.

6. Stay involved with the love in your life.

When things are going badly its easy to withdraw from your partner. Instead stay emotionally close and intimately involved with your partner. This will keep you from feeling alone.

When you feel your partner is supporting you it gives you the sense that “together, we can overcome anything.” That can make you feel stronger as an individual.

7. Stop comparing yourself to others.

You are the only you in the world. When you compare yourself to somebody else you set yourself up to fail. The answer to, “Why can’t I be like Joe?” is “Because you’re not Joe – you’re you!”

• Stop comparing yourself to yourself to others. This is especially true when you’re searching for your confidence. Use the other tips in this article to focus on your good points.
