As Marcus Garvey points out, if you have self confidence you can accomplish anything you put your mind to, but without it you’re running in place.

While you might have no problem believing in others you may have difficulty believing in yourself. If this is you now is a great time to start focusing on building your self confidence.

Follow these steps to build your self confidence so you can start believing in yourself:

1. Act Now

Do you take a long time to act? Do you hesitate to take action?

Hesitation develops self-doubt. Instead, when you see an opportunity, why not go after it?

The longer you take to pursue something, the more reasons you’ll find for justifying your unsuitability for the opportunity.

• Instead of “sleeping on it” make a decision right away. Decide to take action and go after the opportunity.

• Do you feel you’re not up to the job you’ve been offered at work? Instead of thinking about what you lack focus on the reasons you were offered the job to begin with.

2. Practice Positive Affirmations

It’s a lot easier to think negatively than positively, in fact, one of the biggest challenges to self confidence is negative thinking. But you don’t have to allow negative thoughts to control your thinking.

• Negative thinking can eat away at your self-esteem. Instead of accepting those negative thoughts, take a moment to think about the facts. Are things always going wrong or have there you experienced positive experiences as well?

• To counteract those negative thoughts practice positive affirmations. Tell yourself “I can overcome this obstacle, just like I’ve overcome obstacles in the past” or “Challenges are just stepping stones to my success”.

3. Focus on the Positive in Your Life

If you are affected by a lack of self confidence you probably give yourself a hard time and may even consider yourself inadequate or ill-equipped for life. Instead focus on your positive traits and the positive events in your life.

• Spend some time each day highlighting your positive traits and don’t say “I don’t have any positive traits”. If you can’t think of any ask your family or friends what makes you beautiful on the inside and out.

• Log all of your successes, gig and small. This will help remind you that you’re actually more amazing than you may be giving yourself credit for.

• Spend some time with positive people. Their energy rubs off quite easily!

4. Learn to Listen to and Accept Compliments

When people say nice things about you odds are they mean it. Listen to the positive things that others are saying about you and believe them!

• If someone says something nice to you, believe them!

• Remember to say thanks each time. It helps to cement the positive thoughts in your mind.

Use These Tips to Build Your Self Confidence

For the next 30 days, practice each of these tips on a daily basis. As with anything else, the more you practice the better you’ll get at it.

Using these tips you can shift your thinking and in no time your self confidence will grow and soon you’ll hear every opportunity calling your name. Gradually, as with anything else, practicing self-confidence will become second nature.
