The Reality of Hypnosis

Hypnotism is really a form of persuasion. In fact, hypnotism is sometimes referred to as ‘the art of persuasion’. In my opinion, that’s the reality of hypnosis. In a hypnotic state, the person being hypnotized is being persuaded that something is true. This truth can be the idea that they don’t want another cigarette or that they’re really a chicken.

Normally, if someone tries to convince you that something is true, you’ll reject that idea, unless you’re shown iron-clad proof. That’s why, no matter how convincing they are, nobody could really persuade you that you were a chicken.

Also, you not going to convince someone they’re a chicken unless they already want to be a chicken or unless they’re already particularly persuadable. But hypnosis can be used to ‘nudge’ a person’s thinking, as long as they’re willing to go along with the idea.

The Reality of Hypnosis

How can you persuade someone to believe something they wouldn’t normally? While there are a few different ways of accomplishing it, the main idea is to get in ‘under the radar’ by speaking directly to that person’s subconscious mind.

One of the simplest ways is to get a person to feel completely at ease and relaxed. This allows them to drop their guard and drop into a ‘suggestible’ state’. In this state, using the right language, the hypnotist ‘leads’ them toward a desired outcome. Combined with careful phrasing, the hypnotist plants subtle ideas in a way that the allows the person to accept (rather than reject) them. When they return from their hypnotic state, they are more likely to adopt those ideas as their own.

So, the reality of hypnosis is that it is a very powerful way to slip positive ideas into your subconscious mind so you can make the changes you want, whether its to stop a bad habit, get over a phobia or build the type of confidence you need to build the life of your dreams.
