“First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.”
This quote from Epictetus is one we all should remember, you have to tell yourself what you want to be.
As America’s #1 Mental Fitness Coach I often have clients who come into my San Diego office that want to use advanced hypnotherapy (hypnosis) and Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP because they are experiencing an unacceptable level of fear and, as a result a high level of anxiety.
I explain to them that although both of these methods are great relaxation methods which are excellent for dealing with anxiety, they must also deal with their fears on in both their conscious and subconscious minds.
Why You Have Fear and Anxiety
What I’ve found is the reason these clients are fearful is because they are using their imaginations incorrectly. They are programming their minds with negative thoughts and images through negative self talk.
One of the best techniques I know for reprogramming your self talk and overcoming fear in both your conscious and subconscious minds is using daily positive affirmations.
Living with Fear and Anxiety
When you live with constant fear the resulting anxiety makes it difficult to do anything with normal passion and excitement. In fact, after a while anxiety can squelch your motivation and control your life – if you allow it.
The facts are you don’t have to live in a constant state of fear and anxiety – you can learn how to deal with your fear and relieve your anxiety in a more positive manner.
By using positive affirmations you can learn to overcome your fear and put your anxiety to rest – permanently.
Overcoming Your Fear and Anxiety with Positive Affirmations
“You will be a failure, until you impress the subconscious with the conviction you are a success. This is done by making an affirmation which ‘clicks.’” -Florence Scovel Shinn
Like I said above, one of the best ways for overcoming your fear and its accompanying anxiety is by using positive affirmations.
What Are Positive Affirmations?
A positive affirmation is simply a positive statement you say to you about you.
Positive affirmations can quickly shift your negative self talk in positive thoughts and feelings. This shift can reverse the negative images you have been storing in your mind.
These statements are a simple way to shift your thought processes so you aren’t always waiting for fear to take charge of your life and anxiety to defeat you.
Creating Positive Daily Affirmations
There are many ways of creating positive daily affirmations. Some people create their own affirmations while others use affirmations from websites or books.
It doesn’t matter where you find your positive affirmations, just as long as you begin using them effectively throughout your day.
What is important here is to choose positive daily affirmations that speak to you and help you overcome your fear and the anxiety that follows.
One final note, your affirmations must focus on the present and they have to be about you, not anyone else.
Examples of Affirmations for Overcoming Fear and Anxiety
Your daily positive affirmations are simply positive statements that you can say to yourself in those moments when you start to feel fearful or anxious.
You can use these at any time and for any reason to bring peace and calm into your mind.
For example, you can start your day with a positive daily affirmation like, “I totally and unconditionally accept and love myself, just the way I am”. This starts your day by replacing fear with love.
When fear starts to strike you can say, “I am overcoming my fears because I am in control of my feelings”.
If fear tries to hold on, you can tell yourself, “My mind is filling with peace and calm. I let all my fears go and allow myself to relax.”
Any statement that replaces your anxious thoughts with a positive feeling will work.
Using Your Positive Affirmations for Overcoming Fear and Anxiety throughout Your Day
The key is to use these positive affirmations throughout your day.
As soon as a fear pops into your head use your positive affirmations to clear your mind and continue affirming these positive thoughts until the fearful moment has passed.
Reprogramming Your Subconscious Mind
By using these positive affirmations when you are feeling fearful or anxious, you are literally reprogramming your subconscious mind. This will help you to think habitually in a more positive and useful manner.
Anytime fear or anxiety starts to rear their ugly heads use your affirmations to refocus your mind towards the peace and calm you desire.
Letting Go of Your Fear and Anxiety
Fears can and often do lead to becoming anxious about people and events in your life. This can lead to a cycle of fear and anxiety that spirals out of control.
It can be hard to stop this cycle once you’ve developed the pattern of your fear triggering these anxiety-related feelings, but it isn’t impossible.
You can overcome the fear-anxiety cycle by using your positive daily affirmations.
Using your positive affirmations you may be able to overcome the fear-anxiety cycle in less time than you thought possible.
Start Using Your Affirmations Today
Right now, write out a few affirmations that will counteract your fears. Begin to use them right away.
Every time you use an affirmation, you leave less and less room for the irrational fears and the anxiety that have ruled your life for far too long.
You’ll be so glad you did!
