In engineering a pillar is what holds up the main structure of a building. It keeps the building from falling. In Neuro-Linguistic Programming, there are four main ideas, or pillars that make up the foundation.
The Four Pillars of Neuro-Linguistic Programming:
- Rapport – You use rapport to build and maintain relationships with others and yourself. In today’s fast-paced world, learning how to quickly establish rapport is vitally important.
- Sensory awareness – You use your senses to make sense of the world around you. Your senses give you a powerful insight into what others are thinking. Using the pillar of sensory awareness, you can use your sight, sound, touch, smell and taste to make sense of what’s happening in your world.
- Outcome based thinking – Staying focused on the outcome helps you make the best decision possible at that moment. It also helps to ensure the most positive outcome for any situation. Using the “outcome based” approach, Neuro-Linguistic Programming can help you in both minor and major decisions of your life.
- Behavioral flexibility – The last of the four pillars of Neuro-Linguistic Programming is behavioral flexibility. We need to know how to be flexible with our behaviors. When change is required, NLP can help you think and do something differently.
if what you’re doing now isn’t working, being open and flexible is a vital part of being able to change your behavior.
These four pillars of Neuro-Linguistic Programming are key to understanding NLP. Used together, they can help you to bring desired results to your life.
