“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Viktor E Frankl
Hi I’m Wil Dieck, a Master NLP Practitioner and Certified Hypnotherapist with an office in the middle of beautiful San Diego, CA.
Thanks for stopping by today.
I’m the founder of Total Mind Therapy, a unique mixture of hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming and Qigong techniques that have helped people all over the world. I’ll tell you a bit more about that process a little later.
I’m the author of two books. The first, “Secrets of the Black Belt Mindset” is a simple, step by step process of how you can master the habits that black belts use to succeed. It can help you shift the way you think using some the same tools of those who, after years and sometimes decades of development, possess a Black Belt Mindset.
The second book, “Arm Your Child” is a book to provide parents with the practical tools needed to help their children not just survive but thrive in today’s rapidly changing world. This book will help you help your child develop the self-esteem, self-disciple and self-confidence they need to be able to say no to harmful attractions that every child runs into today.
My mission is to help the world and everyone in it discover how to rewire your thinking so you can live the long, healthy and abundant life you desire and deserve.
How I Became a Life and Fitness Coach
“Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.”- Buddha
I began studying personal development early in my life. I began by reading my mom’s subscription of Guideposts, the magazine stated by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.
Since then, I’ve read thousands of books and magazines, listened to hundreds of recordings, gone to hundreds of self-improvement lectures and seminars and researched everything I’ve been able to put my hands on for sharpening my mind, developing my body and improving my spirit through training in the martial arts and studying human development, particularly hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming.
Studying Martial Arts
“Ever since I was a child I have had this instinctive urge for expansion and growth. To me, the function and duty of a quality human being is the sincere and honest development of one’s potential.” – Bruce Lee
In 1967 I watched Bruce Lee on the television show “The Green Hornet”. Bruce Lee became one of the most influential people in my life because after watching him I knew I wanted to learn the martial arts.
There were no Kung Fu schools in the little town I grew up in (Seaside CA), but there was an Army sergeant who taught Judo at the local junior high school so I began learning Judo with him.
It was a great introduction into the physical and spiritual aspects of martial arts training. I stopped training after the sergeant moved away about two and a half years later.
After my stint in the Navy I decided to look for a martial arts school to train in. That’s when I met Young Hyuck Kwon, a master instructor in Tang Soo Do and Hapkido. I trained with him personally for nearly eight years.
In the early 1990’s I began learning Qigong and Tai Chi, two internal Chinese martial arts, attending classes and seminars around the country. These studies have helped me better integrate my mind, body and spirit.
I have taught martial arts to hundreds of students since earning my second degree black belt in the mid 1980’s.
Along with my study of martial arts, hypnosis and NLP have transformed my life.
I came to San Diego when I joined the US Navy in 1971. For the most part I been living here ever since.
I was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1978 and then decided to attend college. As a result of taking some psychology classes I changed my major from engineering and ended up graduating from the University of San Diego in 1983 with a degree in Psychology.
In a psychology class I had a classmate who was a professional hypnotist. I became her client and then I asked her how I could become a hypnotherapist. She suggested a number of books on hypnosis and hypnotherapy that I read and re-read, some of which I have today.
Since then I’ve read well over a hundred books on hypnosis, hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques.
What I’ve learned in these studies has changed my life and could change yours too.
Studying Neuro Linguistic Programming
After graduating from college I began searching for other technologies that could be used to develop the mind. In 1987 I found Tony Robbins’ book “Unlimited Power” that discussed how a new technology called Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP could help a person make quick, rapid shifts in perception that could lead to permanent change.
His book prompted me to learn as much as I could about NLP, reading by Richard Bandler and John Grinder (the creators of NLP), Virginia Satir (about of whom, along with Milton H.Erickson, much of NLP is based) Robert Dilts (an early student of Bandler and Grindler) and as many volumes about NLP as I could get my hands on.
These studies opened my eyes to the unlimited potential of the human mind.
Professor of Psychology
I am on the staff of a couple of San diego colleges, teaching psychology and communications courses.
Total Mind Therapy©
Like I told you, I’ve been teaching martial arts for decades. When I first began teaching martial arts I found that I could incorporate hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques in my classes to help students better focus on achieving the goals they set for themselves.
Although people would ask from time to time to help them using hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques on issues in their lives, I didn’t start helping people with them professionally until 2006.
In 2005 a friend of mine passed away as a result of lung cancer. He had been a long time smoker.
Almost at the same time I received an advertisement for a hypnosis program to help smokers stop smoking. Because of what happened to my friend I decided to take the course.
Since then I’ve helped hundreds of people using a hybrid personal transformation system of three extremely effective processes, Advanced Hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques (NLP) and the deep breathing techniques from Qigong that I call Neuro Emotional
